Guitar Hero World Tour

When Rock Band came out I was quite excited to have some drums to play. Having always liked the drums but never pursued them it gave me the chance to play, somewhat. Rock Band 2 came out and I got some more songs with some online play. Now Guitar Hero World Tour comes around and it seems not as polished. I’m not sure if it’s because I played RB first and the Guitar Hero series is now just jumping on board with the drums but GH seems, well I’m not sure what the word is, maybe less serious, built with fun in mind first? The comparison that might put it into perspective is how the Xbox 360 is a system for the serious gamer and the Nintendo Wii is more for the casual. Well RB is like the Xbox and GH is the Wii of music games.
My first impression was “hmm there’s a lot of songs on here already in Rock Band”. That’s a bit annoying. The character creation was quite involved. More than it had to be I think. After spending like 10 minutes trying to type my dude’s name and create a very basic character I moved on to drum. The first thing I noticed was that the playing field and the line across for the bass drum were similar colors. Still distinguishable but not ideal.
I haven’t tried the recording feature yet. This is something that I have 0 interest in since I don’t really want to hear a song someone made on it and if I’m making a song on there then I might as well just make a real song on my computer instead out of real instruments. So overall this might have been a wasted purchase. The good thing is I had to buy a new guitar to get the game which I needed. My previous 3 guitars were a bit worn out. The slide on the new guitar is a pretty neat feature. Notes are connected and you just slide around the part of the neck without having to pick. I was only a spectator to this and didn’t actually try it myself, because of, you know, the drum thing.
In conclusion, I probably would have been just as happy if I didn’t buy it than if I did. The Rock Band franchise has everything I need to get my fake drumming fix.
